Scharff Weisberg What is New
News and musings brought to you by Josh Weisberg

Is a newsletter you can sign up for, and seems to be available as PDF's at the Scharff Weisberg website.  It's fairly interesting in a "boy I wish my art projects hand enough funding for that" kind of way.

But this months topic Mission:Critical, when is "enough" spare equipment sufficient? is interesting to see.  Certainly it would be great to have a hung spare for every projector, though I consider it lucky to have a spare non matched projector on site.  Though it's becoming fairly common even in your 100 seat downtown theatre.

My strategy when working in the highly resource constrained theatres is to try and have an alternative.  Usually not matching equipment, and often not even "equivalent" equipment.  But a "the show must go on" and this will convey the same information, if not the same beauty and experience kind of thing.

None the less it's good advice, and the way electronics pricing goes, I could expect a small theatre to be able to manage a full backup like mentioned here in a couple of years.
